I wake up in the morning like normal folk
But before I wipe the sleep out of my eyes I have a smoke
And then I have another to celebrate the dawn and one more before I put my coffee on
I’ve got to smoke continuously so my lungs will function properly
They might stop pumpin’ if they don’t see somethin’ comin’ in
That’d be hazardous to me
And so I always give them their own way
I smoke 4 or 5 packs a day
I can cut down a little when I’m in New York or L.A.
There was time when smoking was so debonaire and chic
Because the times have changed and I have not they treat me like a freak
And now I can’t smoke at the Kmart or the grocery store
So I don’t buy clothes or groceries anymore
It’s easier getting bombs on a jumbo jet than trying to sneak a cigarette
They’ll beat you up and they’ll tie you down and detain you for the F.B.I. men
Then they’ll impose some enormous fine, and make sure you do some jail time
They‘ll put your name on a list and you’ll never fly again
It really gets my goat the way they make new laws without consulting me
I didn’t get to vote and I thought this was the land of the free
I’ll light up when I want and where I want I’ll be my guest
I’ll smoke at the Shady Rest Or at my S.A.T. and I.Q. test
On Greyhound Amtrak or Air West why must these moral few protest grant my request
Give it a rest because smoking is what I do best I love to smoke
